Schedule Override

If you have an XR control panel, you may be taking advantage of the convenient feature that lets you program your business entrances to automatically unlock at 8 a.m. or whenever your business opens. But keep in mind, you can easily activate the Schedule Override feature to keep those doors from unlocking until you or another authorized employee presents their credential.

With Schedule Override, you can be certain, even during these uncertain times. And keep in mind, this feature can also come in handy during weather events when you can’t make it in.

Set users as “Inactive” in Virtual Keypad app or browser

If any of your employees have been quarantined, for everyone’s protection, you may want to limit their access into your business. For furloughed and quarantined employees, don’t forget that you can use Virtual Keypad to remotely change those employees’ profiles to Inactive during their temporary leave of absence. And when they return, all of their profile settings in User Codes are saved.

Grant Door Access using Virtual Keypad

This handy feature is especially important in light of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendation that you limit the number of customers to no more than 10 at any time. From behind your counter, you can Grant Door Access from your Virtual Keypad app to unlock the front door, allowing customers to enter, one at a time.

Video cameras

Cameras are a “no brainer” for keeping an eye on your business. When a potential intruder sees your cameras, they may have second thoughts and leave your premises. But not all surveillance systems are created equal. When you choose Advance Alarms for video surveillance, your cameras are integrated with your security and access system. In an alarm situation, you’ll receive a real-time alarm notification on your mobile devices. Clicking on the Alarm Push Notification opens the app to view a list of available live camera views. Immediately, you can either cancel or verify the alarm from the app screen based on what you’re seeing. Recorded clips from on-site cameras are available 10 minutes prior to the alarm. With a high-definition NVR integrated into your system, you also have around-the-clock recording.

Schedules, Favorites & Geofencing

In a hurry to get everyone out of the door in the morning? Then Geofencing should be your new favorite home security feature.

Using Virtual Keypad, create a new Favorite titled “Leaving for the Day”. You can tell your system to turn off lights, adjust thermostats, lock doors, and send you a reminder if you forgot to arm your system.

Then, create a new Geofence titled “Home” and assign that Favorite. So, if you’re the last to leave in the morning, your system will take care of itself when you exit the Geofence.

You can use Geofences to activate any Favorites and truly customize them to your needs and family!

It’s vitally important to us to provide you with the most secure link between your alarm system and our alarm monitoring center.

To send and receive signals to and from your system, we typically use a dedicated cellular communicator that is connected to your alarm panel.

We use them because they have proven to be reliable and fast. Reliable because they can’t be taken out by burglars or disabled due to temporary power loss, and fast because they use the same cellular networks that your smartphones use; typically AT&T or Verizon.

The downside to using their networks is that we are at their mercy when they decide to retire older technologies. In what’s come to be known as cellular sunsetting, these providers phase out certain networks in order to better serve newer and more efficient devices.

AT&T & Verizon are beginning to phase out their 3G networks starting in July. They will be discontinuing these services, tower by tower, until each network is completely shutdown by December 2022.

If you have an older system with cellular communicator, it may be affected by this sunset.  The good news is that it’s easy to upgrade. The upgrade just requires a short service call from one of our technicians.

We recommend that customers upgrade their system as soon as possible to avoid any lapses in service. The sunset is a gradual process, and there’s no way to know when your area in particular will be affected.

If you’ve received a call from our monitoring center about testing your alarm, your system may already be affected.

You may be wondering what happens if you don’t upgrade your cellular communicator…

In short, your system won’t be able to send signals to our monitoring center and will work as a local alarm only. This means our alarm dispatchers will not be able to receive and handle signals from your system, and won’t know to dispatch authorities or react to your system’s events.

These low maintenance items not only help to keep your home safe, but will help prevent breakdowns, save money, and keep your home running more efficiently.

• Put new batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. These batteries should be changed twice a year! The devices themselves should be tested every quarter.
• Inspect fire extinguishers. You do have one on each floor, right? Ensure they are easily accessible and that they have adequate pressure.
• Test your water heater’s pressure relief valve. This will prevent mineral and corrosion buildup, which safeguards against leaks. It will also help your heater run more efficiently.
• Clean kitchen sink disposal. Try vinegar ice cubes! Run the cubes through the disposal. They freshen and sharpen your disposal blades.
• Clean range hood filters. This is something you should be doing every quarter! If you haven’t cleaned them in a while then you’re in for a real treat…
• Inspect, and possibly change out HVAC filters.
• Inspect sink, shower, and bath caulking for deterioration.
• Polish wood furniture, and dust light fixtures.
• Clean the clothes dryer exhaust duct and space under the dryer. Remove all lint, dust, and pieces of material. Make sure the exhaust vents are clear!
• Clean or replace your furnace filter.

Control Your Alarm System Using Siri® with the Virtual Keypad App

If you use an Apple® iPhone®, you no doubt have prompted Siri® to answer a question. With the latest Virtual Keypad update for iOS, you can also use Siri to control several basic functions of your DMP security system. Set up is easy; simply go to Settings > Siri Shortcuts to access and create your Siri shortcuts.

Siri can activate your Favorites, as well as arm or disarm your system. For instance, after “Hey Siri,” say one of these phrases to select an arming type:

• “Arm my system home.”
• “Arm my system sleep.”
• “Arm my system away.”
• “Arm my system all.”
• “Arm my system perimeter.”
